At Overland Labz, we wanted to design outdoor personal vehicles with the ultimate stability on a variety of terrain and at different speeds. Our riders should never sacrifice good handling and traction management, but most of our competitors aren't thinking about these factors - so they make cheaper vehicles with hub drive motors. We don't cut corners and use only mid-frame-powered drivetrains. Bicycle-based vehicles are almost always mid-frame drive, so the electric motor system should follow suit!
Constant Center of Gravity. Since our mid-drive motor is mounted in a single location and does not swivel with the steering, its center of gravity changes much less while riding. This yields solid, highly-predictable handling characteristics--a must when the terrain and environmental conditions aren't so solid and predictable.
Light Weight. Mid-frame motors are lighter than their hub-drive components. Instead of the immense rotating mass of a front or rear drive, our vehicles utilize a revolutionary lightweight motor mounted at mid-framer. This reduces wear and tear on hubs and spokes and makes for a longer-lasting vehicle.
Ease of Service. Unlike hub-motor e-bike systems, our mid-drive is attached to the bottom bracket spindle of the bike. This means the interface with the drive train is simple and easy to access for cleaning and routine maintenance.
Torque Matching. The mid-mounted approach allows the motor to provide torque-matching instead of the always-on thrust of inferior hub-drive systems. The result? Smooth, controllable acceleration and better collaboration between bike and rider.
