When designing Overland Labz light electric trikes, we wanted a frame, fork, and rear section that was rugged, strong, and ready for a variety of multi-terrain applications including exploring nature, fishing, hunting, beachcombing, homestead patrol, and light agriculture.
While lower quality manufacturers use heavy steel in order to save money on their front sections, we've adopted 6061 aluminum to minimize vehicle weight. Larger diameter tubing results in higher overall strength and a solid ride, while the 6061 alloy is very weather resistant.
Our entire frame geometry is precision-calculated around a 24-inch wheel diameter. This is because 24-inch wheels mean better effective offroad gearing than smaller wheels while making the vehicle less prone to tipping than larger ones.
Many trike frame designs rely on a corner-cutting pulley wheel chain tensioner, which creates drag. Our frame set uses a horizontal, quad-bolted rear section coupling to maintain chain tension and maximize the ground clearance of the vehicle.
When rugged terrain and cargo are involved, strength is critical. That's why our rear frame section is made from high-tensile carbon steel. This moves the strength to the place it's needed most--the rear axle--instead of weighing the vehicle down.
A non-threaded headset is an absolute must when steering a high-powered cycle. Unlike the shim steerers on cheaper vehicles, our frame's headset is compatible only with full-size non-threaded steering.
Our super-tall head tube yields amazing strength at the steerer bearings, allowing us to make your ride more comfortable and balanced. We do this with a custom air fork specifically designed for our vehicle.
To ensure maximum rigidity of the front section, our frame has 5 bracing gussets behind the head tube, at the midsection, and in the rear coupling fork--all help give the vehicle more strength.
Unlike cheaper products, our crank set is mounted in a European threaded bottom-bracket shell with square-taper spindle, resulting in ultimate predictability for the drive train and stability for the rider.
When you're rolling with this many horses, adequate stopping power is important. Differentiated front and brake controls allow you stop confidently and assist the steering when necessary.
